STEM Center

Welcome!

STEM center

Located on the 3rd floor of the STEM building in room ST318, the STEM Center helps students with any classes under the umbrella of STEM, including mathematics, biology, chemistry, and more. We can demonstrate how to solve problems step-by-step at a comfortable pace and explain concepts in new ways to give more perspectives on a topic, and we offer resources and a general study space to help students learn to the best of their abilities.

You can meet with us in-person or online any time we are open. For in-person sessions, you can drop-in or make an appointment. For Zoom sessions, you must make an appointment in advance. Make an in-person or Zoom appointment via Navigate Student.

Preparing for a Tutoring Appointment

  • Bring your assignment, textbooks, lecture notes, and the work you’ve done so far, as applicable.
  • Identify the topic or skill related to the material that you want to go over.
  • If you have general questions about STEM-related concepts and/or classes, please prepare your questions in advance.
  • Do not expect tutors to work through the problems or questions you are working on for you, or to teach/re-teach information that you have not learned. You are responsible for your personal academic honesty and for reaching out to your professor for any material that you have not learned.

Our Philosophy

Tutors at the STEM Center will demonstrate how to do problems in STEM and will attempt to explain topics and ideas in new ways to give students a fresh perspective on what they are studying. In other words, we will always show a problem that uses the methods that you may need to use for your homework, but we will never explicitly work out the problems on graded assignments. In addition, we will also not attempt to teach you material that you have not learned yet; it is your responsibility to attend lectures and office hours, take notes, and do as much preparatory work as possible before seeking tutoring. We aim to help you become a successful, independent student and to preserve the academic integrity your instructor expects. Tutors can generally help students only in classes that they are enrolled in.
