Grammar and mechanics are important in both academic and work environments. Grammar Check and Spell Check do not catch every error people make. The first step in becoming a better writer is to learn how to improve sentence structure.
Students transferring to four-year colleges are expected to know grammar and mechanics, and instructors will not spend class time covering those issues. Also, correct grammar and mechanics are needed in jobs at all levels in the business world. Using proper grammar and mechanics in writing and correct grammar when speaking reflects not only upon individuals but also upon the colleges they attended and the companies or businesses where individuals work.
