A guide to using online videos in the classroom

What's available?

Brown Library has several sources for streaming videos you can watch online, Kanopy, Academic Video Online, Films on Demand, DocuSeek2, and Sage Video Collections. See the tabs at the top of this guide for links to the database & more information. 

Our streaming videos have these features:

  • Academic; for all disciplines
  • Legal to use in academic settings, so you can show them in class or on campus
  • You can embed into Canvas shells
  • You can watch them from anywhere- on or off campus- with an internet connection
  • You can create custom clips and playlists
  • Videos are closed-captioned and include transcripts

Additionally, the VCCS subscribes to Hoonuit by Atomic Learning for students, staff, and faculty. These longer modules can be assigned in their entirety or broken up into smaller chunks.

Embedding videos into Canvas

You can easily embed any video from the library into your Canvas course.
