The VWCC Nursing Programs

Virginia Western Community College currently offers two nursing programs: a certificate program in Practical Nursing (LPN) and an Associate of Applied Science degree program in Nursing (RN). Beginning in the Summer of 2015, an LPN to RN Transition Program will be offered. For more information about any of the programs, contact Health Professions at 540-857-7306.

  • VWCC Practical Nursing Program
The Certificate program in Practical Nursing is designed to prepare students for a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The program will provide instruction leading to licensure as a practical nurse, preparing qualified students to meet the health care needs of the community within the scope of practice of practical nursing, as defined by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Graduates of this program earn a Certificate in Practical Nursing and will be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN examination.
  • VWCC LPN to RN Bridge Program
This program is designed to recognize the common competencies of nurses and to bridge the difference between LPN and RN knowledge base and to allow these students to finish the AAS program within a two and one-half semester period.
  • VWCC AAS-Nursing Program
This curriculum is designed to prepare selected students to qualify as contributing members of the health team implementing direct patient care as beginning practitioners in a variety of health service facilities. At the successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) leading to the designation of registered nurse.
